‘Grate’ time of year for Hedgehogs

With spring fast approaching, hedgehogs begin to wake from their long winter hibernation. Hungry and thirsty from this fasting period, hedgehogs venture to find a water source. Which is when they can become trapped, or even worse drown in household drains and gullies.

So, this is the perfect time of year to check that your drains are protected by a grate, especially below kitchen waste or down water drain pipes, ensuring that hedgehogs can’t fall in whilst looking for water.

Protecting drains with a grate can not only help stop animals from falling in, but also keep out debris which could block the drain.

BlockBusters Drainage and Plumbing Services are on a mission to help. With all drainage or plumbing work they carry out, their intrepid engineers will ‘hedgehog-proof’ your drain by supplying a (standard size) drain gully grate should one be needed completely free of charge.

Hedgehogs are primarily nocturnal animals so hunt for food at night. However, they can also be active during the day, particularly after it has rained. Making them even more vulnerable to getting caught in drains or flooded gullies.
